TODAY ... a thousand years ago would be the year 1026. Around that time Thorkell the Tall, a Viking warrior and chieftain was invading England.  The European people had made it through the End of the World that didn't happen in the year 1000.

In 1919, Just a little over a hundred years ago, a school book told kids that....

"If the boys and girls of today should live a thousand years they would see many marvelous inventions, but none would be likely to lessen the marvel of talking over the telephone."

Little did they know that flying robots would be delivering coffee and a pastry to a person sitting in a park, in China.  

A hundred years ago when the telephone was a new phenominon a person who talked on the phone had their voice travel. through 1480 tons of copper wire, [ that is almost 3 million pounds] strung on more than 130,000 poles.  

Twenty-two million miles of copper wire had been used and this is enough wire to coil around the earth at the equator over 800 times.

It is long enough to run from the earth to the moon and back again forty times.
