For those curiouser and curiouser... Rudolf Steiner, [1861-1925] in a lecture series given in 1906, discusses this story of Faust and Mephistopheles and the meaning behind those words above said by Mephistopheles. Steiner's lecture relays
Blood denotes an individualized ether body, just as the brain and spinal cord denote an individualized astral body. And through this individualizing comes about that which expresses itself as the “I.”
