Cycling 101

Most everyone is familiar with a bicycle.  Large portions of the population can ride a bicycle.

But  how many of us can read a cycle?

Is the material world actually a series of cycles?  Or an ongoing cycle of cycles?

Terrestial Cycling

A bicycle of course is a vehicle used mainly to  transport people and maybe the stuff people carry. But I am using it as a vehicle for this concept of cycles transporting the world of humans through time and space.

Ride along  as I peddle the idea.

A bicycle has two [bi] wheels [cycles] as the method or object(ive) used to roll on a surface, like the surface of the earth, and to travel the distance from place to place or point A to point B.

A unicycle is the same, with one [uni] wheel.  A tricycle the same, with three [tri] wheels.

Travel generally involves a steering wheel which could be a circular tool rotated directionally to steer.  The  bicycle and tricycle use two grips or handles, the handle bar, which is attached to and maneuvers the front wheel in order to steer the front wheel.   The rider steers by moving, turning, altering the course of the front wheel in circular, or semi circular motion.  So the act of steering is also circular and wheel like.

But, interestingly, a uni cycle has no steering mechanism.

The single wheel is steered by balance, a balancing rider.  The cycler learns to ride the cycle by balancing the physical body's movement in rhythmic coordination with the directional trajectory.  By using the two feet the rider is both peddling the wheel causing it to move, and steering the wheel, causing the direction of movement.   The balancing rider is engaged bodily and is able physically to direct the cycle.  This cyclist steers the movement of the wheel in the desired direction with balanced bodily movement.

A bicycle rider can also do this, steering the front wheel bodily while riding "no hands" .

A tricycle rider however is physically balanced, stabilized, by a third wheel.  The triangular formation of the three wheels enables a mechanical balancing force and the vehicle no longer requires a human to bodily balance the movement, instead only physical pedalling is needed for movement.  And maybe mental balance to steer away from any crash course by crazy turns of the wheel while pedaling too fast.  The energy to move the vehicle is still sourced from the human.

Celestial Cycling

The earth, the moon, and the sun will cycle through the planetary hours whether the earthlings comprehend these cycles or remain oblivious.  The wheels of time turn along the earth axis with no human pedaler.  Or is there?  Or steering wheel?  But if humans steer the earth, and steer it off course for too long, or to too great an extreme the balance is at risk.  Is this how it works?

OR, are the earthlings themselves being steered by cycles ?

The wheel turns and the feet pedal in a cyclical movement coming back to the starting point over and over again.  That is the point being made.

A cycle is a period of time with a starting point, and a return to that point.  Or, as viewed linearly, line-arly,  [a line  ______  as opposed to the circle  O ] a cycle is a movement from point A to point B.

Most beings on the earth can not view with the physical eyes the actual complete circle of the planet.  But as earthlings, we view the cycle of the sun relative to the earth as the day and the night, we comprehend this by way of sunrise and sunset.  Or as light and dark, or as sun above the horizon and sun below the horizon, above and below.

If I draw a sine wave ,

then draw a horizon, or horizontal line through it,

I begin to get the idea of the sun seemingly rising and setting, on the horizon, moving above and below.

Then, if I draw a yellow circle to show the sun moving above and below the horizon I see the completed cycle.

The period of time - from beginning the cycle to end of cycle, is the red point where the sine wave begins setting on the horizon, and travels down then up and down again to the point on the horizon where the cycle of sunset is complete, or also said to begin again..

A day is done.

The period is the time it takes to complete one cycle.

The line we called the horizon, could also be termed the line of equilibrium, or the equal points in the wave, or the balance.  And in the sketch given here the terms are not being used in a scientific realm, but to imagine a concept.

The red point is the marker for beginning, with a line being drawn to the next beginning point of the cycle, the "period of time" that marks 1 day, or 24 hours, or 1,440 minutes, or 86,400 seconds. And this cycle has gone on repeating for what period of time?  Well, at least for all of my lifetime.

This cycle of the sun is seen as movement of time.  Imagine one of the ghostly sun gods Ra, or Helios or Sol, pedalling the days away on the solar unicycle traveling through the age with perfect balance.

But there is also a cycle of seasons.  If a person rises early and observes the sunrise somewhat routinely from the same window it may be noticed that the point of light on the horizon moves day by day, and the same with the sunset.

The wheel of a unicycle may move in a period of time, say  one revolution per two seconds, up down with the pedal. ..one, ..two.   And every up and down of pedaling is forming the crest, highest point, or trough lowest point.  If we use the sine wave image again we see the crest and trough relative to the green line.

Skipping the details of a wave length here I will simply add that we earthlings experience movement of time, and distance.  Most of us understand the road signs showing the speed limit.  The speed we travel in our cars, or unicycles, is measured in time and distance, miles per hour.

I am imagining the sun as a  unicycle, earth moon as bicycling in tandem, and  earth sun moon as tricycling.   I'm not saying this is the scientific workings, just conceptualizing the idea of solar, lunar and planerary cycles on in a relatable image.  Just imagine how the Greeks created the myths, and how the Egyptian temples recorded the messages of the gods.  Imagine what Hollywood could do if the goal was to pass down wisdom.

In our era the study of cycles is dated to Edward R Dewey and his Foundation for the Study of Cycles.  According to the current day Cycles Research Institute, Dewey found many fundamental empirical laws of cycles.  The institute relays one of these laws,

"Cycles outside the earth are related to cycles on earth."

And then follows with  "This was a conclusion that he [Dewey] came to reluctantly because it sounds like astrology."

Cycles move with or without us, for us or against us, above and below us.  But Awareness creates a world of differences.
