Hans Christian Andersen, a well known Danish writer from the 1800's best known for combining traditional folk tales with his own great imagination to produce fairy tales known to most children today.
In fact it was his work inspiring many of the works of Disney and other motion pictures.
Has was raised in poverty, eventually attended Copenhagen University and became a writer of poems, plays and books. He is best known for his Fairy Tales and Other Stories, written between 1835 and 1872.
