This school book, written by Charles Beard and William Bagley, was published in 1918.
Reading the preface of the book gives insight to the era of schooling, the style of the writers. Sometimes its interesting to compare newer and old books discussing the same subject matter.
The older school books tend to have 'questions and exercises' for the student/reader at the end of each chapter or through-out the pages, This allows individuals to move at their own pace or group discussion.

Generally the older books are presented less as a presentation of facts and more as a flow of insight into how things work, or happened, or fit together. The books tend to be useful to a broad age group and not systematic to grade levels.
I thoroughly enjoy reading or browsing through the pages of these old school books and always learn something I didn't know.
Here are some of the Table of Contents Pages and the book also has maps and photos .
