Community Interest and Public Spirit

Community Interest and Public Spirit

A book from 1919 and the series Young American Readers.  Community Interest and Public Spirit.

The pages of the Table of Contents alone are just so interesting to look at as pages of history.

But reading through some of the stories  is a leisurely  time travelling expedition of lost memories we forgot our ancestors had lived for us, to have and to hold, and pass down.

From the intro page

“The aim..., is clear and definite. It is to make intelligent, interested, practical citizens, who will know what good government is, and how to co-operate with public officials to get it. The younger generation are learning to think straight and true in public matters, whether of city, state, or nation. They really want to be good citizens, and are coming to see that ‘the test of good citizenship lies in the existence of an intelligent, continued interest in the question of good government'. ”
